Every year an average of 13 lakh students attend NEET and 12  lakh students attend JEE. Like Ganeshotsav and Holi, these entrance exams became one of the festivals of India, not only because of the population involved in it but also because of the economics involved in it. Joint Entrance Exam and National Eligibility cum Entrance Test, both are ranked among the world's toughest exams. Every year an average of 13 lakh students attend NEET and 12  lakh students attend JEE. Like Ganeshotsav and Holi, these entrance exams became one of the festivals of India, not only because of the population involved in it but also because of the economics involved in it. Allen ( one of the top Entrance coaching institutes in India) says on their website that they had given prices worth 1.5 crores in the year 2019 alone. For drawing a clear picture of the entrance economy we could simply check Allen’s fees, for the first year itself it cost around 120000. The economy is so huge therefore a lot of educational products and services are offered in this segment alone. Even a tablet program offered by Akash Byju alone costs around 75000.

What is a dummy School?

Dummy Schools are a product offered from entrance coaching institutes for their students in order to skip the regular schooling and spend most of their time preparing for the entrance exam. They convince the students that the school studies will distract their focus on the entrance exam. So they provide a solution for this problem, ie dummy school. Dummy Schools are those schools that are on the payroll of the coaching institute where a student only has to spend 1 or 2 hours each day to focus on their board exams and school syllabus. Whereas in a regular school a student has to spend at least 7 hours a day and he needs at least 75% attendance to attend the examination.

Khota Rajasthan acts as the biggest center of dummy schools. As you all know that Khota is a Holyland for the entrance pilgrims, it is widely believed that if you take classes in Khota your probability to crack the JEE  or NEET gets higher.  Every year approximately 1.5 L to 2 L students pack their bags to Khota. The primary Aim of these students is to get into prime institutes like IIT and AIIMS. But the sad truth is IIT has only 16,234 seats and AIIMs are limited to 1899. And the tier two Institutes like NITs are also limited to 23,997 seats. So the ratio is 42130: 250,00,000. If we take the case of Khota students alone, it is believed that 33% of IIT seats are won by Students from Khota ( ie, 5358 out of 200,000). What happens to the rest (1,94,642), if they fall into the trap of this dummy school they lose their chance to attend decent schooling. And it is evident that the rank toppers are from reputed institutions and they excelled in both their curricular and extracurricular activities.

In conclusion, dummy schools exist only because of the pressure on students' shoulders and the readiness of parents to blow money on the entrance festival, every year this festival happens, every year students got bulldozed. A stat shows that during 2011 -2016  fifty Sven students killed them selfs in Khota alone. Now the whole concept of entrance exams lost the aspect of learning, It is high time to stop pressurizing the kids, let them follow their hearts. After all, Dr. Apj Abdul Kalam never went to an  IIT he was from Madras Institute of Technology.

Kalam sir once said - “When there is righteousness in the heart, there will be beauty in the character. When there is beauty in the character, there will be harmony in the home. When there is harmony in the home, there will be order in the nation. When there is the order in the nation, there is peace in the world.”
