Flipped Classroom the new reality and future

Flipped Classroom the new reality and future

Covid pandemic had substantially evoked a sense of dynamicity in every sector, especially in the educational sector of the country.

The wind of revolution was so strong that the concept of teaching from home and learning from home became the order of the day and it eventually drove to the mushrooming of Ed-tech apps and online tuition supports.

As a result, the app-based learning methodology has become so familiar that even in the rural outskirts of the country people are depending on it. But the fact to remember is all these changes had begun only after march 2020 ( some exceptions are there like the Byju's app and extra marks were there). Even if all these technological up-gradation and changes happened overnight, some visionaries were able to see the future and had worked on the concept more than one and a half decades ago. Jon Bergmann and Aaron Sam are two prominent names worth mentioning. These two academicians from  Woodland Park High School coined a new terminology and ideology in our modern-day education system - THE FLIPPED LEARNING.

What is flipped learning?

The basic idea of flipped learning is to provide the classroom lectures in a video format so that the students can watch them outside the class i.e., at home and the classroom time can be utilized for more peer-based learning activities.

Online classes and app-based education in the pandemic period.?

Every single stream of education including schools was forced to move towards online education methodology, which later became a money-minding option. According to Byjus they got new 30 million student downloads and became a decacorn during the pandemic. The pandemic acted as a catalyst for the company's growth.

Google meet, zoom calls, skype, and many other apps became educational facilitators. Later Google classes were introduced. Now Byju's and Google classroom are joining hands for a new venture called Vidyartha.

Schools are reopening

Now almost all states reopened schools and students were given the option either to follow online classes or to follow physical ones. The primary reaction was welcoming one but still, certain students and parents prefer to stick on towards online classes.  Certain Ed-tech giants like Byjus had seen the opportunity and they came up with a proper flipped classroom idea where a combination of Physical tuition and online edutainment content is provided.

Byju’s Learning centers

According to the byju's team  - BYJU’S Tuition Center is a network of tech-enabled classroom centers spread throughout the country to transform the future of learning.

In BTC (BYJU’S Tuition Center) they are offering a unique combination of offline learning at centers and online learning at home.

An article was written by Sindhu Hariharan on Times of India (Feb 17, 2022) states that Byju's already launched 80 pilot centers and by the feedback from pilot centers they will be opening around 500 learning centers in 200 cities by 2023. The company's target is to acquire around 1 million students into the program in the next two years. Depending upon the size and location of centers each center will accommodate around 1500- 2500 and can go up to 4000 students.

Tilt-Ed a new path

We, the Tilted Prime team support a certain combination of flipped learning, or to be precise we believe that activity-based learning is more effective. Do and learn have is more effective than read and learn or Watch and learn. We trust that learning to unlearn and relearn are the essential part of learning, that's why we advocate so and learn methodology, thereby the kids will be able to tinker their skills and sharpen them accordingly. The central government of India also advocate the do and learn methodology

The National Education Policy

The new educational policy announced in July 2020 focuses on the reimaging of vocational training in schools. But far before that in the year 2016, the Atal innovation mission by Nithi Ayog started to implement Atal tinkering labs to support the electronic-based innovation among school students across the country. Currently, more than 9500 Atal tinkering labs are functioning all over the country in 34 states and union territories.

As we mentioned earlier NEP 2020 gives importance to Re-imagining Vocational Education, Experiential Learning, and Technology Use and Integration. According to the plan by 2025, at least 50% of learners through the school and higher education system shall have exposure to vocational education.

The future

The future of our education system is to Do and learn, that's why we advocate more than a flipped education i.e., a Tilt Education. Where the kids are inducted towards their super skills. We believe every kid is a hero with a superpower. We help them to identify it, we show them how to harness it

We also believe that childhood has to be filled with colors and dreams. Kids' hands are supposed to handle more clay, crayon, and toys than an Ed-Tech tablet or a complex textbook. Let them play let them learn.
